Eminem - Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna
This Video is another illustration as the topic is directly derived from the lyrics. The conventions used such as fire symbolises from the lyrics, the actions in the film are linked with the lyrics in the song as it shows a broken relationship which keeps breaking and getting back together. The high angled shots show the dominant person in this relationship. The use of jump cuts would empathises the different stages that the couple goes through in their relationships. The low key lighting empathises the destroyed relationship, it empathises the sadness and dominance that the male has. This representation conforms to the stereotypes as it shows that the male in the video is angry and dominant whist the female is soft and fragile.
The meaning behind the video is rather explicit as it is obvious and is easy to understand that the relationship is broken and is not going so well.
Asher Roth - I Love College
This music video is an illustration because the topic of this song is directly derived from the lyrics as the there are many different conventions within the music video which makes it obvious. The use of young, loud, teenagers, drinking and partying also can show stereotypical views of teenagers, however, also is linked with the lyrics of "I Love College' as Asher Roth is basically showing the fun side of college and this could possible attract young teenagers to go college rather than dropping out. The video shows the advantages and fun life of college. The various jump cuts and fast cut aways shows the fast and partying life of college which emphasises the excitement of the people in the party. The plastic cups and people puking shows the alcoholic life of college which would attract a lot of young teenagers as they would be free. This video is aimed at teenagers as it shows the teenage life in college and illustrates the fun you can have and the freedom you are given, also it shows the consequences that occur with the freedom that's given for example, puking for drinking to much and getting you hair shaved off and written on for passing out.
The representation of the video conforms to the views of college, as many teenagers expect college to be like that, however, it can also subvert because college is not always like that because there is times where studying is required. This video has a lot of iconography init as the props used are consistent throughout the video. The video can also be used to symbolise the college life in America as fun and partying which attracts people to go college.
This video gives an explicit and subtextual meaning as the actions that occur in the video are made obvious and are linked with the lyrics of the video. The images uses such as drinks, puke, strip poker are all parts of college life, it connotes with the artist.
This video i believe is a negotiated reading because people may think that this is the obvious life of college and they may accept that view, however, other may believe that this video shows the wasted and failed life of college if you party a lot. People may criticise the video by saying college parties are not like this and there may be more work involved.

Amplification Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWucYbAp8Lk
Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson is an Amplification because it doesn't really derive from his lyrics as the mise en scene isn't linked with his lyrics of criminal actions. However, the bar he is at is full of criminal as they all hold guns and look like a criminal.

Illustration Video
This video is an illustration as everything we see in the video directly derives from the lyrics of the song. The song name fireworks has the conventions of fireworks in the video. Fireworks are linked with young people and in the video there is young people all around. The lyrics of the video is linked with the conventions of the video. The choreography of the video, emphasises youth, excitement, joy, fun, loudness, these are all linked with fireworks and the stereotypes of young teenagers
Lady Gaga Bad Romance Analysis - Does Lady Gaga's Bad Romance conforms or subverts to the codes and conventions of a typical pop video?
Lady Gaga's video conforms and subverts in many different ways. Bad Romance is an amplification as it is partially derived from the lyrics as it both conforms and subverts. The ways it can conform and subvert is by the codes and conventions of the video.
The ways it conforms through conventions would be the way Lady Gaga is wearing provocative clothing in this video which would appeal to young viewers, as males could be sexually appealed whilst females could use Lady Gaga as a role model. The colour red in one of the scenes in the video is linked with romance as red is a passionate and loving colour. The Fire in the mise-en-scene conforms as it shows the burning desire of love, its very symbolic towards love and romance. The video can conform because it shows how a man has bought Lady Gaga which is linked with bad romance, so it is an example of forced love.
The way this video conforms using codes would be the different editing and camera movements in the video. The various cross cuttings and direct addresses is linked with bad romance as it establishes the actions within the film. the low key lighting at the start of the video is effective as Lady Gaga isn't really singing and hasn't been introduced into the video as the main singer, the low key lighting is then followed by high key lighting when she starts to sing and gets introduced.
The way this video subverts through conventions would be the lack of symbols within the whole video, as there isn't that much colours of passion or actual symbols of romance or bad romance e.g. women and man fighting. The type of clothes she wears is linked with fashion mainly rather than a romantic dress, so the costumes isn't linked with romance at all except of that one scene in red lingerie. The video shows an unbalanced representation of bad romance so it uses intertextuality and psychotic promotion as it seem disturbing at times.
The way it subverts using codes would be the low angle shots of Lady Gaga standing up and the man sitting down shows that she is dominant over the man however, it is the other way around.
To conclude I believe that the majority of this video subverts to Bad Romance as there are more conventions that subverts rather than conforms.

My favourite video
My favourite Video
This music video was the first video i watched when i started getting into RnB and Rap in more depth, for example listening to more artists within those genres. This video is good because it is orginal and shows the artists orginal voice rather than any autotune ontop.
